Jonathan Sprague is a CTI BSc IT graduate from Durban. He was one of two students from CTI that was awarded a scholarship to complete his postgraduate degree studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University in the UK, you can read the full story here.

We’re proud to say that Jonathan is still making huge strides in the world of information technology. His team was awarded second place and R25 000 at Codefest 2016, which forms part of the Youth Innovation Challenge that was held from 21 – 23 April in Durban. He tells us about his experience below.

“I participated in the 2016 Codefest from 21 – 23 April 2016.

We were grouped in teams of 10 in which I had never met anyone in my team before. I was selected as the team leader and we were given 24 hours to develop an application to solve one of five topics they gave us.

The topic we decided to address was “Uber for market access and services” as many new/small businesses don’t survive their first three years as the struggle to break into a market with strong competitors often leads to the business becoming bankrupt. One of the biggest problems new businesses face is not having contacts and not knowing cheap, reliable companies that they can outsource.

We decided to build a mobile application that provides a platform for businesses and entrepreneurs to communicate and conduct business in an efficient, effective and reliable manner.

After every team presented their application on the 23rd, the award ceremony took place and our team won second place and R25 000!

Once again I want to thank CTI and all the lecturers for giving me the skills which helped me lead my team and achieve this result.”
